Vulnerable Grey

Dress: TJ Max

While I have bought this dress in winter 2011, I have worn it on three particular occasions only, and it is only now that I have decided to wear it on the blog. The reason for this is because I feel particularly vulnerable in regards to this dress.
I bought it for a meeting with someone that never happened. I was at TJ Max looking for the perfect outfit, and this dress, with its empire neckline and flowing silhouette that reminded me of 17th century paintings, caught my eye. Incidentally, it was around the last few weeks that I felt truly happy, on that streak of luck that began in 2010 with my admission to my then-dream school, NYU; the period preceding very closely the bad depression I endured after many things took a disastrous turn literally overnight that February.
For over a year, the dress hung in the back of my closet, unworn, and I was assaulted by devastation and tears every time I saw it. It was only when I found complete closure that I took it out, a little apprehensive at the memories and the nostalgia it may bring back. I took it out and wore it to meet with someone else, in fact, the person I've been mentioning all these months, and that time, it brought me luck.
I was no longer exposed and vulnerable in this dress; I was a seductress (after adding a padded, push-up bra to the equation, naturally, and a spritz of Opium by YSL,) and I obtained what I wanted.

While things have changed, and I find myself alone at the moment, I am reminded by this dress of the emotional journey I've embarked on, and I feel thankful that I now have a much firmer grasp on my emotions. I am no longer that vulnerable eighteen-year-old, but now when I wear this dress, it makes me realize that I know what I want from life and love, and that I should use what I've been blessed with to go for it.

I love hearing the stories and emotions invoked by certain pieces of clothing (I think one of the things that got me into personal style blogs in the first place). You certainly look gorgeous and confident in that dress now.
