Thirty questions

I know, I know, I doubt anyone did any of these questionnaires since 2007, but then again, I'm hardly one to ever follow the trend. Also, on the one hand, answering precise questions may be an easier way to tell my readers more about me, and on the other... I just love talking about myself! Which - gasp - is the reason why I write this blog!

01: Your current relationship, if single discuss how single life is.
While I have been lucky enough to find this one person that made me feel complete at last and fully alive, we are separated at the moment due to a lot of difficulties we haven't been able to overcome, although still part of one another's life. However, my stance on the matter is that if two people are meant to be, in the end they will be together. If not, then they're simply not meant to be. In any case, so be it.

02: Where you’d like to be in 10 years.
Geographically? I'm not sure. I'd say the DC area or New York, but I do like to move a lot, so wherever life takes me.
Professionally, I'd like to be doing something I love, ideally making a comfortable living from writing novels and perhaps blogging as well, and owning a vintage/second hand boutique.
Personally, I want to be at peace with everything, and I wouldn't mind sharing my life with the person I love.

03: Your views on drugs and alcohol.
I do reasonably enjoy alcohol; what I wish is that there wasn't such a prohibition on it in this country; it would avoid a lot of tragedies (like teens ending up in the hospital/dead because they feel the need to binge drink as a counter-reaction to prohibition). As to drugs, I personally don't do any, but I think legalizing some (those that are the least dangerous to an individual and third parties) would be good for the economy and public safety (since it would eliminate underground, mob-controlled drug traffic). Lastly, I believe it's better to spend taxpayers' money on prosecuting real, serious crimes rather than throwing kids in jail and ruining their future (as if it wasn't difficult enough to make it in this country, with student loans and unemployment) for possessing marijuana.

04: Your views on religion.
Religion, to me, 1) one's personal relationship with a supernatural being, 2) a part of culture (like Hanukkah, Christmas, Ramadan, etc.). Everyone should be free to practice what they think is good. However, I disagree with religion when it is used as a tool to guilt, shame, manipulate or exercise control on people or populations. I am completely against religious states and think religion and politics should be completely separate.

05: A time you thought about ending your own life.
This is quite a serious and sensitive subject, I don't believe it's appropriate to discuss here, so casually.

06: Write 30 interesting facts about yourself.
This would make the post extremely long, but here's 20 facts about me. I'll share 10 more some other time...

07: Your zodiac sign and if you think it fits your personality.
I'm a Pisces and I definitely think it fits my personality since, in a nutshell, we're complicated as hell and I'm hardly an exception!

08: A moment you felt the most satisfied with your life.
June 2010. And perhaps now too.

09: How you hope your future will be like.
Peaceful, happy, safe, filled with success, good health, friendship and love.

10: Discuss your first love and first kiss.
First love... I had several crushes before, but nothing marked me as much as the person I became deeply infatuated with when I was sixteen. Nothing ever happened, it couldn't because it was wrong for countless reasons, and the subject of my affections never knew, which is all for the best.
First kiss... We were both six, older kids had cornered us and forced us to kiss on the mouth to let us go. Yeah, not romantic at all.

11: Put your ipod on shuffle and write 10 songs that pop up.
Tosca, Vissi d'arte - Maria Callas
Lucia di Lammermoor, "Regnava nel Silencio... Quanto Rapito in Estasi" - Maria Callas
Tristan und Isolde, "So stürben wir, um ungetrennt" - Birgit Nilsson, Karl Liebl
Die Walküre, Act II - Deborah Voigt, Bryn Terfel, Jonas Kaufmann, Eva Maria Westbroek
La Traviata, "Teneste la promessa" - Maria Callas
Das Rheingold, Prelude
La Bohème, "Donde Lieta Usci" - Maria Callas
"I need you to turn on" - Elton John
Götterdämmerung, "Hier sitz ich zur Wacht" - Hans-Peter König

12: Bullet your whole day.
Bullet?

13: Somewhere you’d like to move or visit.
England, perhaps, on the coast of Wales. I'd love to live in Paris and Toulouse again. There are way too many places I'd like to visit. Let's say the whole world. And I wouldn't mind going on the Moon as well (I did want to become an astronaut at age 10; I became infatuated with Jessica Steen in Armageddon, and I went into this astronaut phase which my father still remembers and teases me about constantly. GRR)

14: Your earliest memory.
My 2nd birthday, perhaps, waking up and seeing the table dressed and ready with the cake and everything, and friends arriving.

15: Your favorite tumblrs.
This one.

16: Your views on mainstream music.
I highly prefer opera (as you may have guessed from above), but I don't mind "mainstream", I just don't listen to it much. I love Queen, Céline Dion, Aerosmith, and Elton John, and some French variety, among others.

17: Your highs and lows of this past year.
Ooh, dear. Where do I start?
Highs: an enjoyable few months in Canada, moving into an apartment of my own, my wonderful friends and family, lots and lots of Wagner.
Lows: my relationship taking a rather bad twist, academic incertitude, family drama...

18: Your beliefs.
I believe I can do what I think is morally right as long as it doesn't hurt the freedom and safety of others. But I won't change who I am to please people.

19: Disrespecting your parents.
No disrespect intended, but sometimes when a person is toxic and you've made so many efforts in vain, you have no choice for your the sake of your own mental health and safety than to take your distances, independently from their genetic linkage to you.

20: How important you think education is.
I do believe education is extremely important, however I am more and more disappointed by the US education system, where you basically buy a degree and spend your whole life in debt.

21: One of your favorite shows.
Downton Abbey.

22: How have you changed in the past 2 years?
Very. I believe I have become more honest and true to myself, and less fearful of what people think. I've also gone through things there were traumatic, and while I am moving on, they have affected me deeply and are part of my transformation.

23: 5 girls who are famous who you find attractive.
Julianne Moore, Meryl Streep, Rachel Shelley, Helena Bonham Carter, Vanessa Williams.

24: Your favorite movie and what it’s about.
All About Eve; it's about women, rivalry and survival, I think.

25: Someone who fascinates you and why.
Anne Boleyn. Do I need to say why?

26: What kind of person attracts you?
There's no "kind", it's about whether the spark is present or not. This said, I do find black people extremely attractive. West-Africans in particular. *Wink wink...*

27: A problem that you have had.
Trust issues.

28: Something that you miss.
Someone I love very dearly.

29: Goals for the next 30 days.
Make my new apartment look beautiful without breaking the bank.
Obtain the job I've wanted for a while, or find a different, well-paying job.
Work more regularly on the blog and my novel.
Handle a certain situation to the best and make it change to the best.

30: Your highs and lows of this month.
Highs: my wonderful friends, my new place, finding some peace.
Lows: relationship drama (solved), toe injury.
