I am alive, my dear loves...

August 13, 2013

... Although my left big toe has seen much, much better days. On Friday night, my aunts and I were carrying my bed frame into my new apartment when the headboard slipped and fell right on my foot, causing significant nail and toe trauma. I went to the hospital yesterday, where they performed a procedure I'd rather not think about anymore (even the least queasy of you will faint) and sent me home with a bandaged toe, pain pills and antibiotics. Not exactly what I had in mind for my next pedicure. But ah, well.

And now, as I'm sitting in my living room, listening to an opera playlist of essentially Wagner and Philippe Jarroussky, and sipping pomegranate tea, I'm wondering how to even begin updating you on the past two months.

Let's see. Upon my return from Montréal, I stayed for a few weeks in an unpaid live-in nanny position, which in the end didn't work out. So I quit, and briefly returned at my relatives'. And last week, I moved into an apartment of my own here in Bethesda.
My part-time modeling career is going quite well, which for DC may sound surprising, but there are lots of delightful photographers here with less superficial ideals of female beauty that you'd find in New York or Los Angeles. And while I am looking for a "regular" job to support myself (and have hopefully found one), I've decided to thrive in what makes me happy, to find my true passion(s) and make them my success. I've tried putting others' expectations before mine for a whole array of reasons, and it led me nowhere at all. So I will no longer waste my youth, but I will focus on myself and on my loved ones.

So here's to new beginnings; the best is yet to come, I am convinced of it. And that, even with a mangled toe.

My aunt and I moved in this heavy couch ourselves, and then I lied down to rest... Not posing at all, hahaha.

Painting an Ikea dining set my aunt gave me, in her backyard. I say it looks better in glossy black than brown wood, she disagrees... And I agree to disagree.

Snapshot from a recent photo shoot at the George Washington National Forest in Great Falls, VA. The inspiration: Ophelia, drowned in the waters. I must say, after a day of acrobatics, I now feel a lot of sympathy for the singers in the most recent Metropolitan Opera production of Wagner's Ring...

Ouch, you poor thing!

Other than that, I'm glad to hear how you've been doing... Moving into a new apartment is always exciting (I agree with you, the dining set looks much better in black) and I hope to see more pictures of your place as soon as possible :)
