On happiness, again!

February 04, 2013

An hour ago, as I was waiting for a batch of whole-grain olive bread to bake, I was hunting through my Facebook timeline for things that I had written a long time ago and that now need to be deleted, like, now. I began reading the notes I had written, which varied anywhere from the good old quizzes where you tagged the people who last wrote on your wall and answered questions about them, to my own writings, sometimes funny and sometimes deep.
I couldn't help but linger on a note I had written the summer before I started my freshman year of college at NYU in Paris; it was a list of the random things, people and events that made me happy. In retrospect, although a part of me can't help but wonder if making this list jinxed all what came after, I think I am very much in the need of making another. I am not unhappy, or at least not as much as I have been at certain times in the past two-and-a-half years, but counting my blessings makes me realize that even though life isn't perfect (yet; getting there, getting there), I have much of what I've always to be content; and realizing that makes me feel happy and optimistic about the future.

So here are, in no particular order, a few of the random things that make me happy:

- Baking something to perfection, and getting compliments from people.

- Moving to Montréal: this change was much, much, much needed; it's probably one of the best things that happened to me.

- My wonderful partner: THE best thing that happened to me. I love you, my kitten <3. Also, now the Gladys Knight and the Pips song is stuck in my head. Again...

- My two amazing flatmates: not nearly as annoying as most men are... Actually, not annoying at all! Kind, friendly, helpful (which means, among other things, immediately responding to my hysterical shrieks of "KILL THE SPIDER-LOOKING-THINGY! KILL IT! GET IT AWAY FROM ME! OH MY GOOOOOD, IS IT GONE?")

- A Desperate Housewives marathon. I can never get tired of those.

- An intensive and successful writing session (wine helps).

- Mushu, in Mulan. He's perfect!

- An intensive jogging session. Endorphin high is quite something...

- Candles.

- Walking in the snow with my high heels. And not falling. A personal victory.

- Earl Grey.

- Richard Wagner. F*ck yeah!

- Harry Potter Pinterest boards.

-  The Dowager Countess.

- A fun get-together with friends.

- Crochet Pinterest boards.

I'd think of some more, but initially, this was supposed to be a break to my writing session. So I'll leave you with those now; feel free to share what makes you happy in the comments below!
